Guys; I’m Having a Seriously Difficult if Not an Impossible Time Accepting the Book of James Saturday, Apr 13 2013

Luther is starting to persuade me that the book of James is not canonical.

For years I have thought through the issues involved with James chapter 2 and for a while I thought Clark’s answer that the faith meant the object of one’s faith. Yet this does not wash with the context for James says,

22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

The object of faith was working?

Guys I have to say that at this point in my life, I have to agree with Luther. I think James is non-canonical. There is no way, that anyone with a Pauline formed conscience could ever say the things that James says. There would be an apriori paradigm that would preclude the language that James uses and Paul’s writings operate off that paradigm, not James’.
